Hi, I’m Suja, and I'm running for the provision in Waterloo. Behind me is the automotive manufacturing unit, a crucial part of our community, where approximately 60% of Waterloo's workforce is employed in the automotive industry. I am here to appeal to all of you in this sector as I propose an exciting initiative for our upcoming election campaign: a focus on electric vehicle (EV) development.
With the skilled professionals we have in our automotive sector, transitioning toward electric vehicles presents a significant opportunity. This shift will not only provide an alternative career path for those feeling stuck in traditional manufacturing roles but will also inspire interest in new advancements within the industry.
In addition, I am calling for a concerted effort to promote local manufacturing of small parts, which can help strengthen our supply chain and create jobs right here in our community. From the government’s side, we will take proactive steps to ensure business stability in light of challenges posed by tariffs, supporting our local manufacturers during this transition.
By embracing electric vehicle production and enhancing small parts manufacturing, we can attract new investments and bolster our local economy, creating more jobs and opportunities for growth. This approach will position Waterloo as a leader in the electric vehicle market globally.
I believe this initiative represents a pivotal first step towards transforming our community and establishing Waterloo as the number one city in the world for electric vehicle manufacturing. Thank you for your support, and let’s work together to drive this change!
